For Max Ross, art isn't a side pursuit — it's the core of his life. His work moves beyond simple representation, using symbolism, imagination, and emotional depth to explore existence, transformation, and the unseen forces that shape our world. Each painting starts loose and intuitive, with layers of brushwork that gradually bring the image into focus. Up close, his strokes feel loose and instinctive; from a distance, they come together into a strong, unified composition.

Earlier in his career, Max gained recognition for creating original artwork featuring celebrities — a path that sharpened his ability to capture both technical detail and emotional truth. While those experiences expanded his range, his focus today is on creating deeply personal, meaning-driven fine art that taps into universal themes of growth, wonder, and human connection. Whether drawing from photography, live studies, or spontaneous imagination, Max trusts the creative process to reveal what each piece is meant to become.

His work has been featured in multiple galleries and exhibitions, including the MACC's Schaefer Portrait Challenge and the DAC Artists of Hawai'i Biennial, where he was awarded the Melusine Award for Painting.

His main focus — both in art and in life — is finding the connection between the two. Through the many ups and downs he has faced, Max has come to believe that no matter the circumstances, staying committed to his passion for creating is not only a career choice, but a way of honoring his purpose and growth as a human being.
