Evan Schauss began his journey in glassblowing at the age of 12 in 1998, participating in Chihuly’s Hilltop Artist school in Tacoma, Washington. Through a program focused on connecting youth to brighter futures via glass art, Evan honed his skills and gained insight into operating a Hot Shop. His enthusiasm for glass art propelled him to travel the world and collaborate with esteemed masters such as Pino Signoretto, Lino Tagliapietra, Martin Blank, and Dale Chihuly.
In 2004, Evan established his first Hot Shop and later devised the energy-efficient “Hot Glass Shop in a box,” which revolutionized mobile glassblowing. His innovative approach and expertise have made him a sought-after figure in the glass art community.
In 2007, an opportunity to assist with glassblowing and Hot Shop design took Evan to Maui, where he settled in 2011. A few years later, Evan demonstrated his commitment to fostering artistic abilities in others by donating an all-in-one Hot Shop to the Hui Noe’au Visual Arts Center. Through various community art programs, he has also provided at-risk youth with the chance to explore art, discover inspiration, and build skills and confidence through the boundless world of handblown glass sculpture.
With over 23 years of experience, Evan’s drive for innovation and design fuels his creativity. Operating from his studio in Haiku, he continues to delve into the meaning and expression of art through glassblowing and sculpting. You can appreciate his work in person at Enchantress and Freeborne Gallery located in the Shops at Wailea in Maui..
